Union Oregon, "Where Adventure Begins", is a small community of 2100, centered on the crossroads of The Grand Tour and the gateway to Catherine Creek State Park in Northeast Oregon. The community is rich with activities, events as well as occasionally hidden and unique shopping experiences.

Union Women's History Tour

The Union Carnegie Library Ollie Osborn The Union Carnegie Library located in Main Street in Union Oregon is important to Women's History because it hosts a mural of Ollie Osborn, The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame lists Ms. Osborn "Ollie was the first women to pursue the sport of rodeo full time, becoming a multiple champion. Born to Oregon homestead ranchers, she began competing in the early relay races when she was a teenager. she discovered bronc riding and made a name for herself by riding "slick" without hobbles, like the men. Remembered for her daring rides and extravagant tailor=made clothes, she continues to ride until 1932". The mural was created in 2022 by Rita Tarter-Bangs. The art piece sits above the entrance to the library and includes a plaque with Ollie Osborn induction date into the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. https://contest.savingp

Union Ranger District Compound

Today: The Union Ranger District Compound is owned by The City of Union. The Union Historic Preservation Committee in collaboration with The City of Union is in the process of renovation. Their goal has been to renovate to maintain the historic accuracy of the compound. To date, the pump-gasoline house has been restored. The City is currently renovating a second building on the property with the goal of making this building available for overnight stays by 2021. Description: The Union Ranger District Compound is a group of administration buildings constructed for the Forest Service in the 1930's by Civilian Conservation Corps workers. The Union Ranger District Compound at Union Oregon was formerly called the Eagle District Compound before the District was renamed in 1947. From the Union Victorian Cemetery Flyer Union Victorian Cemetery Established in 1862 The oldest Monument Cemetery in Northeast Oregon 770 E. Fulton St. P.O. Box 707 Union, Oregon 97883 541-562-5212 UnionCemetery1@frontier.com Office Hours 9:00-11:00 The Chapel This building is reported to have been constructed in 1893 as a tool shed for the cemetery. In 1997 the Veterans took timber from the old Union Four Mill and siding from an historic house and refurbished the shed into a Chapel. Outbreaks We find published in the papers stories from 1909 stating that Union had an outbreak of Diphtheria and also Scarlet Fever. The railroad was closed as well as churches and schools. a curfew was set up so that no one under the age of 19 could be on the streets.
